CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND READING COMPREHENSION AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMA MULIA BUANA PARUNGPANJANG – BOGOR
Abstract
This research was taken at SMA Mulia Buana Parungpanjang Bogor This research use quantitative method. There are two kinds of variables in this research, the first variable is the students’ vocabulary mastery score which is taken by how many vocabularies that they; it is considered as independent variable (variable X). The second variable is their reading comprehension ability; we considered it is dependent variable (variable Y). And the population and sample in this research are 40 students.The calculation of the hypothesis test result indicates that between students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension a case study at the tenth grade students of SMA Mulia Buana Parungpanjang in academic year of 2013-2014 have enough correlation. This indicated by its co-efficient correlation that appears the value of 0,757 as well as its correlation significance test value that shows the value of 7,13, proves that there is a significant correlation between both variables. Based on correlation test coefficient, it is found out that hypothesis in this research is accepted. Process of giving meaning or interpretation toward the vocabulary mastery in positive way enables students to achieve a high ability in reading comprehension in learning English at school formally.
